Maryland solar tax credits,
county by county.

Most Maryland solar incentives are statewide — but several counties quietly add their own property tax credit on top, and it's easy to miss. Here's what each county around Baltimore offers in 2026, straight from the county governments.

Anne Arundel County

Up to $2,500 One-time

Covers solar devices that heat, cool, generate electricity, or provide hot water. Applied against the county property tax on your home's building. Apply by June 1 for the next tax year, and keep paid receipts/invoices — lease coupons don't count.

Baltimore County

50% of cost or $5,000 Whichever is less

The Energy Conservation Devices Tax Credit, for residential solar or geothermal systems. Important: it does NOT transfer if you sell — a change of ownership ends it. (A separate High Performance Homes credit rewards whole-home energy efficiency.)

Howard County

Carroll County and Baltimore City don't publish a comparable solar property tax credit in our sources — confirm directly with the jurisdiction. And statewide, Maryland exempts solar from property-tax reassessment, so adding it never raises your property taxes.

Adding a battery, not new panels? These county credits are written around solar energy systems — a standalone battery's eligibility varies by county. For the federal and Maryland picture on batteries specifically (which changed a lot in 2026), see our 2026 battery incentive breakdown →

Does my Maryland county offer a solar tax credit?

Several do — on top of the state and federal picture. In the Baltimore area, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Harford, and Howard counties each offer a residential property tax credit for solar energy systems. Carroll County and Baltimore City don't publish a comparable credit in our sources, so confirm directly with the jurisdiction.

How much is the Anne Arundel County solar tax credit?

Up to $2,500, as a one-time credit against the county property tax on your home's building. It covers solar devices that heat, cool, generate electricity, or provide hot water, and the application is due by June 1 for the following tax year.

Do Maryland counties give a tax credit for home batteries?

These are property tax credits written around solar energy systems, and whether a standalone battery qualifies depends on each county's definition of a 'solar energy device.' Some may include storage paired with solar; others may not. Confirm with your county's finance or assessor's office before counting on it — and see our federal/state battery breakdown for the 2026 picture.

Does adding solar raise my property taxes in Maryland?

No. Maryland exempts solar energy systems from property-tax reassessment statewide — so even though solar adds market value to your home, it doesn't increase your assessed value or your property tax bill.
