What is the SolarEdge Home Battery?
It's SolarEdge's residential storage battery — 9.7 kWh of usable capacity per unit, 5 kW of continuous power (7.5 kW peak in backup), that stores your solar so you can use it after dark or when the grid goes down. It's DC-coupled and works as part of a SolarEdge Home Hub system, and you can stack units up to about 87 kWh for a bigger home or longer backup.
Does the SolarEdge battery work with my existing solar panels?
It works best when your existing system already uses a SolarEdge inverter — then the battery is a clean, efficient add on the DC side. If your panels run on a different inverter (for example Enphase microinverters), a SolarEdge battery isn't a drop-in: it needs a SolarEdge Home Hub inverter, so pairing it means adding or replacing inverter equipment. In that case the Enphase IQ Battery is usually the cleaner retrofit. The honest first question is simply: what inverter do you have? We'll check for you.
Is the SolarEdge Home Battery good for outage backup?
Yes, when it's set up in a backup configuration with the right backup interface — then it automatically powers your home the instant BGE drops, and recharges from your panels the next day. Its 5 kW continuous / 7.5 kW peak output covers essential loads comfortably, and stacking units extends both how much it can run and how long. Note that a battery installed only for self-consumption savings won't island your home in an outage without that backup hardware — so tell us if riding through outages is the goal.
How is the SolarEdge battery different from Enphase?
Two main differences. Chemistry: SolarEdge uses NMC lithium-ion; Enphase uses LFP. Architecture: SolarEdge is DC-coupled and needs a SolarEdge inverter, while Enphase is AC-coupled and modular in 5–10 kWh blocks. SolarEdge tends to be the natural pick if your home is already a SolarEdge system; Enphase is the natural pick if you're on Enphase microinverters or want to start small and grow. We install both and size to your actual home.
How many SolarEdge batteries do I need for my Baltimore home?
For essential backup — fridge, lights, Wi-Fi, sump pump, medical equipment — a single 9.7 kWh unit typically carries a home through the evening and overnight, then recharges from solar.
