Why Harford County loses power
Rural Harford has miles of overhead line threading through heavy woods, which leaves it especially exposed when storms roll trees onto the wires. In the July 4–5, 2026 storms, more than 10,000 Harford customers lost power — the most of any BGE county — and some waited days for restoration.

How often does Harford County lose power?
More than the built-up counties closer to the city, because so much of Harford is rural overhead line running through woods. It was the hardest-hit county in the July 4–5, 2026 storms with 10,000+ customers out, and rural restoration often takes the longest.
What should I do when the power goes out in Bel Air or Aberdeen?
Report it to BGE and check the outage map — in rural Harford, restoration can lag the denser areas, so knowing the estimate matters.
